Jean-Claude
Latombe is a Professor in the Computer Science
Department at Stanford University.
Dr. Latombe's research interests are in designing
computer algorithms to represent, sense, plan,
control, and render motions of physical objects.
The underlying issue is to efficiently capture
the connectivity of configuration or state spaces
that are both high-dimensional and geometrically
complex, a problem for which he and his students
have developed an efficient approach based on
random sampling (probabilistic roadmaps).
