The Bio-X Leadership Council is pleased to announce the recipients of the Bio-X Interidsciplinary Postdoctoral Fellowships.

Sergey Solomatin
Sergey's research will involve the use of single-molecule Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer (sm-FRET) to explore the folding dynamics of RNA.  In the Herschlag and Chu labs, Sergey will synthesize dye-labeled ribozyme molecules and characterize their folding pathway by observing time-dependent changes of the distances between the labeled sites. Computer simulations performed in Dr. Russ Altman's lab will be used to integrate smFRET results with thermodynamic and kinetic data gathered within a wide collaborative effort. This approach will allow to predict folding pathways for mutant ribozymes and to precisely design experiments to test such predictions.
