Dr. West's lab research focuses on the study of human soft tissue tumors and carcinomas using ultra high-throughput sequencing, genomics, gene microarray, and tissue microarray technology. They perform global gene expression analysis followed by validation of the data with in situ hybridization or immunohistochemistry on tissue microarrays. Their goal is to find new diagnostic and prognostic markers in sarcoma and cancer, and to identify potential therapeutic targets.

His laboratory'’s research examines the molecular events that lead to and sustain tumorigenesis, with a focus on soft tissue tumors. Current research interests include:

  1. Gene expression profiling of soft tissue tumors to examine stromal expression patterns in carcinomas.
  2. RNA-seq expression studies of potential therapeutic gene targets in epithelial cancers and soft tissue tumors.
  3. Identification of novel markers in tumors for diagnosis, prognosis and prediction of therapeutic response.
