Dr. Deshka Foster is a dual fellowship-trained surgical oncologist and hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgeon with Stanford Health Care. She is an assistant professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery, Section of Surgical Oncology at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Teddy Akiki is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University. He is Associate Director of Computational Neuroscience at the Center for Precision Mental Health and a member of Stanford Medicine's artificial intelligence faculty cluster.
Dr. Akiki is Co-Director of the Stanford Precision Psychiatry Clinic, where he uses neuroimaging of brain circuit function to inform treatment decisions. He specializes in treatment-resistant depression, anxiety disorders, and posttraumatic stress disorder.
Dr. QiLiang “Q” Chen, MD, PhD, is a pain management anesthesiologist and system neuroscientist at Stanford University and VA Palo Alto Healthcare System (VAPAHCS). He specializes in the treatment of complex chronic pain disorders, such as headaches, migraines, orofacial pain, chronic post-traumatic pain, and chronic post-surgical pain.
Dr. Muriel Babey is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology, Gerontology & Metabolism at Stanford University. She is a physician–scientist who specializes in metabolic bone disease and osteoporosis, with a focus on skeletal health during reproductive transitions and aging, as well as disorders of calcium and parathyroid metabolism.
Dr. Adam Sperling received his medical degree and PhD in Biological Chemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2011. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and his fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. He received board certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine in 2014, in Medical Oncology in 2017 and in Hematology in 2018.
Dr. Michael Schumacher is a gastrointestinal physiologist focused on discovering new therapeutic targets for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) including ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. Dr. Schumacher's lab studies how intestinal tissues interpret, respond to, and recover from inflammation, with a particular emphasis on how immune signals shape epithelial function, tissue remodeling, and mucosal healing.
Dr. Marissa Reitsma is an Assistant Professor of Health Policy at Stanford University School of Medicine. She obtained her PhD in Health Policy at Stanford in 2024, during which time she was a Knight-Hennessy Scholar, Stanford Data Science Scholar, and NSF Graduate Research Fellow. Previously, she worked on the Global Burden of Disease Study at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation. Dr.
Dr. Kimberley Tolias is a Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. The Tolias laboratory studies the molecular and cellular mechanisms that govern neural circuit formation, plasticity, and repair in the mammalian central nervous system (CNS). In particular, the lab investigates how synapses and neural circuits form, remodel, and adapt throughout life to support learning, memory, behavior, and recovery following injury.
Dr. Hyunseok “Hyu” Kang, MD, MPH is a medical oncologist specializing in head and neck cancers, including squamous cell carcinoma, salivary gland cancers, thyroid cancers, and other rare tumors. He serves as Leader of the Head and Neck Cancer Research Program at the Stanford Cancer Institute and Leader of Head and Neck Medical Oncology. His research focuses on developing clinical trials with novel therapies, including immunotherapy, targeted agents, and antibody-drug conjugates, to improve outcomes for patients with rare and aggressive head and neck cancers.
Dr. Tait Shanafelt is the chief wellness officer, associate dean, and Jeanie and Stewart Ritchie Professor of Medicine at Stanford University. Dr. Shanafelt is a hematologist/oncologist whose clinical work focuses on the care of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
