Desiree LaBeaud - Professor of Pediatrics (Infectious Diseases)
Bio-X Affiliated FacultyThe LaBeaud lab's main research questions focus on the risk factors for arboviral infections, the development of diagnostic tests that can be administered in the field to quickly determine what kind of arboviral infection a person has, and the genetic and immunologic investigation of why different people respond differently to the same infection. -
Derick Okwan - Assistant Professor of Pathology
Bio-X Affiliated FacultyBroadly, Dr. Derick Okwan lab’s primary interest is to understand how and why the immune system contributes to nearly all chronic diseases. The immune system of the modern human has evolved from a history of stress to the species: famines, continual bouts of lethal pandemics, as well as major climate/environmental and migratory changes that exposed the immune system to novel threats.

Derek Amanatullah - Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery
Bio-X Affiliated FacultyDr. Derek Amanatullah specializes in hip and knee replacements for individuals with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, infectious arthritis and avascular necrosis. He also performs revision surgeries of knee and hip implants with problems.
Dr. Amanatullah's group works in novel approaches to diagnosing and treating implant associated infections, focusing on antibiotic independent or synergistic methods.
