The 10th request for proposals for the Visiting Scholar or Visiting Postdoc Fellowships at Stanford Bio-X funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF) has now gone live, and will have a deadline of January 29, 2024 at 2pm (CET).  With this call, we are accepting and reviewing postdoctoral-level interdisciplinary bioscience project proposals from scientists who have significant association to Denmark’s academic/research environment and will have obtained their PhD degrees or similar qualifications within 5 years of the fellowship start date (sometime between September 1, 2024 and January 15, 2025).  Up to 2 fellows will be selected to carry out these projects for 3 years at Stanford under the mentorship of at least 2 Stanford Bio-X affiliated faculty before returning to their hosting Danish institution for the last and 4th year.

INTERESTED APPLICANTS: click here for Bio-X affiliated faculty who have specifically indicated interest in mentoring and hosting a potential fellow. Applicants can also click here for the full list of Bio-X affiliated faculty.  If you have any questions during this part of the application process, please contact Dr. Heideh Fattaey.

For faculty who are interested in potentially mentoring and hosting a fellow from this program, please email Stanford Bio-X so that we can create a short lab research profile for you on the Bio-X website.  This will help interested Danish applicants in their search for Stanford Bio-X affiliated faculty of interest.  We also recommend that you reach out to the faculty who already are hosting or have hosted accepted fellows in this program to learn about connecting with Danish scientists to find potential applicants.  You can do that by clicking here and reaching out to the first PI listed under each fellow’s name.

17 scholars have already been selected in the 9 previous rounds and hosted in the following Stanford departments: Radiation Oncology, Molecular & Cellular Physiology, Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, Chemical & Systems Biology, Biomedical Data Science, Biology, Materials Science & Engineering, Neurobiology, Bioengineering, Cardiovascular Medicine, Geological Sciences, Neurology & Neurological Sciences, Chemical Engineering, and Pathology.

The success of the Stanford Bio-X Visiting Scholar or Visiting Postdoc Fellowship Program has inspired the Novo Nordisk Foundation to expand and extend its Interdisciplinary Postdoctoral Fellowship Program, enabling ambitious researchers in the natural and technical sciences and life sciences to boost their careers conducting research at one of several top international universities. The development of this fellowship started back in 2010 when Stanford Bio-X cultivated a 2012 Novo Nordisk-sponsored research project, as well as an affiliate membership partnering with the University of Aarhus.  Through numerous in-depth conversations with NNF's top executives, Stanford Bio-X has officially partnered with NNF since 2014 to establish this joint visiting scholar or visiting postdoc fellowship program.  The program is designed to strengthen the exchange of scientific expertise between Stanford and Denmark while also enhancing the fellows' research experience and training at the highest international level.

Please don't hesitate to contact Dr. Heideh Fattaey regarding any additional questions.
