The 6th request for proposals for the Visiting Scholar or Visiting Postdoc Fellowships at Stanford Bio-X funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF) has now gone live.  With this call, we are accepting and reviewing postdoctoral-level interdisciplinary bioscience project proposals from scientists who have significant association to Denmark’s academic/research environment and will have obtained their PhD degrees or similar qualifications within 5 years of the fellowship start date (sometime between Sept 2020 and Jan 2021).  Up to 2 fellows will be selected to carry out these projects for 3 years at Stanford under the mentorship of at least 2 Stanford Bio-X affiliated faculty before returning to his/her hosting Danish institution for the last and 4th year.

9 scholars have already been selected in the 5 previous rounds and hosted in the following Stanford departments: Radiation Oncology, Molecular and Cellular Physiology, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Chemical & Systems Biology, Biomedical Data Science, Biology, Materials Science and Engineering, Neurobiology, Bioengineering, and Cardiovascular-Medicine.

For interested applicants,to start the process of looking for a potential hosting faculty, please click here for the full list of Bio-X affiliated faculty, and here for affiliated faculty who have specifically indicated interest in hosting a potential fellow.  If you have any questions during this part of the application process, please contact Hanwei Li.

For faculty who are interested in potentially hosting a fellow from this program, please email Hanwei Li so that she can create a short lab research profile for you on the Bio-X website.  This will help interested Danish applicants in their search for Stanford Bio-X affiliated faculty of interest.  We also recommend that you reach out to the faculty who already are hosting or have hosted accepted fellows in this program to learn about connecting with Danish scientists to find potential applicants.  You can do that by clicking here and reaching out to the first PI listed under each fellow’s name.

The development of this fellowship started back in 2010 when Stanford Bio-X cultivated a 2012 Novo Nordisk-sponsored research project, as well as an affiliate membership partnering with the University of Aarhus.  Through numerous in-depth conversations with NNF's top executives, Stanford Bio-X has officially partnered with NNF since 2014 to establish this joint visiting scholar or visiting postdoc fellowship program.  The program is designed to strengthen the exchange of scientific expertise between Stanford and Denmark while also enhancing the fellows' research experience and training at the highest international level.

Please don't hesitate to contact Hanwei Li regarding any additional questions.
