Developing ways to regenerate damaged organs or cell types have become an important goal in medicine. To realize this goal it will be essential to understand the actions of all of the genes that play a role in the replication of the stem cells for the various tissues. We hope to develop an interdisciplinary approach to both induce the proliferation of stem cells in vitro and to understand how critical genes function in this process. Our studies might lead to ways of replicating populations of stem cells for any given tissue.
