Dr. Luby’s research interests include identifying and interrupting pathways of infectious disease transmission in low income countries. He works primarily in Bangladesh. His ongoing work includes:

  1. developing and evaluating strategies to improve community water, sanitation and hygiene including characterizing the impact of a fecally contaminated environment on enteric dysfunction and community health;
  2. characterizing emerging infections, especially henipaviruses and influenza viruses and developing and evaluating practical strategies to prevent transmission;
  3. evaluating the impact of the Bangladesh national vaccine program on the burden of pneumococcal and Haemophilus influenzae type B infection.
