"Evaluating AI-Generated Bacteriophages for Enhanced Treatment of Antibiotic-Resistant E. coli"
Escherichia coli urinary tract infections (UTIs) are difficult to treat due to antibiotic resistance. Use of broad-spectrum E. coli phage cocktails is promising, but has been difficult to achieve with natural or engineered phages. Stanford’s Hie lab designed a set of fully AI-generated E. coli phages with improved killing against lab strains, which have not yet been tested against clinical isolates nor in combination with antibiotics or other phages. Tia will evaluate whether AI-generated phages can improve cocktail activity against a panel of clinical E.coli UTI isolates by expanding host range or through synergy with antibiotics or other phages.
