"Novel Cardiac Mapping Signal Analysis"

Although over 6 million people in the U.S. suffer from atrial fibrillation (AF), a condition associated with significant morbidity and mortality, including stroke and heart failure, there is currently no widely accepted method for electrically mapping the human heart in AF, a critical step in diagnosing and identifying its source. A collaboration between Chemical Engineering and Cardiovascular Medicine at Stanford has resulted in the application of a novel design of multielectrode bioelectronics to create the highest density of electrodes ever used to record from the inner surface of the heart in order to improve AF mapping. Gabriella’s project will focus on the automated analysis of electrical signals obtained from these electrode arrays.
