"Noninvasive Biopsy: Virtual CK16 Immunohistochemistry (IHC)-staining of Virtual H&E Images"
Atopic dermatitis affects 10-20 percent of children and 2-10% of adults globally. Diagnosing AD (in general, skin diseases) currently requires invasive, time-consuming, and costly biopsies, with pathologists relying on H&E-stained and CK16 immunohistochemistry (IHC)-stained tissue. This project aims to create a full “virtual biopsy” pipeline. The Winetraub Lab has developed a tool to convert noninvasive OCT (optical coherence tomography) into virtual H&E images. The Sarin lab’s project seeks to complete this pipeline by using a cycleGAN trained on unpaired data to generate CK16 IHC-stained images from H&E, enabling a fully noninvasive workflow from OCT scans stained tissue sections.
