Research Title: Deep learning approaches for functional variant prioritization

Research Description: Anna’s primary research interest is decipheringPhoto of graduate student Anna Shcherbina in the lab, displaying a graph on her computer screen. the genetic and molecular basis of complex diseases i.e. how specific variations in genomic DNA sequence across individuals may predispose them to disease by affecting molecular mechanisms in cells. She aims to develop novel machine learning approaches based on deep neural networks for integrative analysis of data from a variety of complementary technologies to measure biochemical activity in disease-relevant cell types and genome sequence variation data from large case-control studies contrasting diseased and healthy individuals. Anna’s efforts will focus on cardiovascular disease and colorectal cancer.

WHERE IS SHE NOW?

Anna is a machine learning engineer at insitro, a start-up focused on high throughput drug target discovery and development.
