Photo of Brian Chu.Brian Chu is studying heart failure, which is when the heart is unable to pump hard enough to supply blood. He is looking at a protein that is known to play a role in the nervous system, but may also have beneficial effects in the heart. Specifically, he is quantifying the expression of that protein in heart tissue and measuring the strength of heart cells treated with that protein.
