“Attenuation Correction of PET/MRI Insert for Brain Imaging"

The Levin group is developing an MRI-compatible PET insert for brain imaging. PET scans require correction for the varying levels at which different tissues attenuate radiation. Caio’s project aims to implement an iterative python algorithm that addresses this correction. By combining information from multiple angles over time, the algorithm will probabilistically reconstruct blocked activity without exposing the patient to additional radiation. The device, with its improved resolution, combined modalities, and lower cost, could advance research into neurodegenerative diseases and neurodevelopmental disorders.
