“MRI Assessment of Cardiac Fibrosis and Tissue Remodeling in Hearts with Atrial Fibrillation”
Cardiac fibrosis has been implicated in an ever-increasing role in heart disease and can be both a cause and a consequence of atrial fibrillation. Calvin will attempt to develop non-invasive methods of assessing fibrosis, using MRIs of porcine hearts experiencing different stages of atrial fibrillation. These methods will allow him to study fibrotic tissue remodeling in atrial fibrillation and pave the way for routine assessment of fibrosis in clinical and research settings.
