2012 and 2011 Undergraduate Summer Research Program Participant

Home Department: Biology (Neurobiology)
Supported by: Bio-X
Mentor: M. Bruce MacIver, Professor (Research) of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine

Hailing from San Diego, Edmund is a rising junior who is majoring in biology with a concentration in neurobiology. This summer Edmund is currently conducting research in Dr. MacIver’s neuropharmacology lab in the Stanford School of Medicine. He is investigating ethanol’s mechanism of action on GABA synapses in the hippocampus. When he’s not in lab, Edmund enjoys eating, playing basketball, and playing darts. In the future, Edmund hopes to attend medical school.

Poster presented at the Stanford Bio-X Interdisciplinary Initiatives Symposium on August 27, 2012:

Ethanol Actions on GABA Synapses in Hippocampal Slices

Edmund Posadas1, Beza Dagne1, Melis Sunay2, M. Bruce MacIver2

Hailing from San Diego, Edmund is a rising junior who is majoring in biology with a concentration in neurobiology. Over the summer, Edmund is doing research in Dr. MacIver’s neuropharmacology lab in the Stanford Medical School. Currently, he is using electrophysiology techniques to analyze the effects of ethanol on GABA receptors in the CA1 region of the hippocampus in rat brain slices. During his free time, he enjoys eating, playing basketball, and volunteering at Stanford Hospital and Clinics. In the future, Edmund hopes to attend medical school.
