Research Title: A Tiling DNA Microarray Approach for Functional Gene Analyses in Microbial Ecosystems

Research Description: Complex microbial communities play an important role in a range of environments, including the biodegradation of toxic compounds in groundwater, interactions in the human gut affecting health, and the contribution of agriculture to global atmospheric methane concentrations. Ian applied novel molecular methods, specifically, tiling DNA microarray, to query the presence and expression of functional genes from a wide range of microbes in the environment to better understand interspecies microbial interactions.
