“Engineering an Epicardial Mapping and Ablation Device for Minimally Invasive Surgery in Patients with Ventricular Arrhythmias”

Cardiac mapping and ablation have emerged as valuable tools for the treatment of heart rhythm disorders such as ventricular tachycardia; however, current techniques for mapping the epicardium are limited in their ability to accurately localize regions of arrhythmia. Tools that can better evaluate arrhythmogenic sites and offer precise localization of disease foci may lead to improved surgical intervention and therapeutic success. Marina will design and engineer a minimally invasive device that will enable patient-specific epicardial mapping during minimally invasive cardiac surgery, which will aid in the diagnosis of ventricular arrhythmias and improve ablation therapies.
