“Elucidating the Role of Calcineurin in Acute Pancreatitis"

Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a common gastrointestinal disease linked to aberrant calcium signaling and calcineurin (CN) activation in pancreatic acinar cells. However, CN’s role in AP remains partially understood, particularly in NFAT-independent mechanisms. Mihajlo’s research will focus on identifying novel CN substrates involved in AP, using phosphoproteomics and network analysis tools like phuEGO. Preliminary data highlight SMCR8 as a potential substrate, implicating CN-regulated autophagy pathways. By combining computational and experimental approaches, Mihajlo’s project aims to elucidate CN’s role in AP pathogenesis, offering
insights into novel therapeutic targets.
