Omar Garcia is studying the interactions of different pathogens within the lungs of immunocompromised individuals. Specifically, he will be studying the chemistry behind the removal of iron by a virus that infects bacteria. The insight gained from this research could lead to a novel treatment for severe lung infections in cystic fibrosis patients.
