Dr. Stephen Skirboll's research focuses on screening strategies to identify and characterize cancer stem cells (CSCs) in human gliomas. The lab is pursuing this in several ways:

  1. a novel colony-forming antibody live cell array to identify distinct CSC surface phenotypes
  2. RNAi screens to identify kinases critical for CSC tumorigenicity
  3. high throughput small molecule and chemical screens to identify compounds that selectively kill or target CSCs
  4. identifying CSCs using the tumor specific EGFRvIII
