“Investigating the Stabilizing Effects of Cholesterol in Bacterial Lipoprotein Nanoparticles"

The Sharaf lab has developed bacterial-based lipoprotein structures. This summer Uchenna is working on understanding the formulation of bacterial lipoprotein nanostructures. It has been shown that incorporation of cholesterol increases liposomes stability. Using this knowledge, Uchenna’s goal is to optimize the incorporation of cholesterol into Lipoprotein-based nanoparticles and analyze their stability and overall viability as a vehicle for drug delivery within the human body. Ultimately, this work will help the development of stable nanostructure that can be used in low to middle income countries that lack cold-chain infrastructure.
