Dr. Chen is tje Co-Director of Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery. As such, her clinical expertise is in the evaluation and treatment of female urinary conditions, pelvic organ prolapse, vaginal abnormalities, and sexual dysfunction related to pelvic floor disorders. She has extensive experience with abdominal, vaginal, and the latest advanced laparoscopic procedures. Her area of research is in molecular abnormalities in connective tissue metabolism in women affected with pelvic floor disorders and stem cell treatment for female urinary incontinence. Her work is recognized and funded by the National Institutes of Health and California Institute of Regenerative Medicine. She has given numerous talks and is known both nationally and internationally for her research in extracellular matrix metabolism in female urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse.
Dr. Chen’s research examines the molecular causes of urinary incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction. Recognizing that urinary incontinence linked to demise of smooth muscle sphincter function, she is investigating the potential use of stem cell regeneration to restore muscle capacity.
