The Nayak laboratory pursues basic and translational research into stem cell regeneration of the upper airway epithelium using animal models and human tissues obtained from sinus surgery. They seek to understand the cells, molecules, and regulatory signals that promote upper airway tissue regeneration and regeneration at the stem cell level, in response to injuries from surgery, radiation, trauma or environmental insult. They eventually hope to harness their research findings to develop new understanding of upper airway biology, and create novel therapies for treating common but debilitating diseases that affect aerodigestive function.
