Dr. Prakash's laboratory is a curiosity driven research group working in the field of physical biology. The lab brings together experimental and theoretical techniques from soft-condensed matter physics, fluid dynamics, physics of computation and unconventional nano-fabrication to open problems in organismic and cellular biophysics, with a current focus on hydraulic constraints on living systems. The lab often focuses its experimental expertise on inventing new precision measurement technologies to both probe and perturb biological machines and their synthetic analogues. These new physical measurement and manipulation tools are not only providing critical insights into the functioning of biological machines, but are also being utilized in clinical applications with a current focus on global health in extremely resource poor settings.
