Dr. Shafer's group research is on the mechanisms and consequences of virus evolution with a focus on HIV therapy and drug resistance.

The Bhalla Laboratory uses in vivo and in vitro approaches to study mechanisms of glomerular and tubular physiology critical to kidney health and disease. The lab began working on fundamental regulators of tubular transport and have expanded to study these modes of regulation in metabolic disease including obesity, insulin resistance, and hypertension.

Dr. Azagury combines his clinical experience and his passion for innovation to focus on reducing the impact of surgical procedures on patients.

Dr. Wong's present research covers a broad range of topics including carbon electronics, 2D layered materials, wireless implantable biosensors, directed self-assembly, nanoelectromechanical relays, device modeling, brain-inspired computing, and non-volatile memory devices such as phase change memory and metal oxide resistance change memory.

Dr. Shaw's primary research interests include epidemiology of birth defects, gene-environment approaches to perinatal outcomes, and nutrition and reproductive outcomes.

The Steinmetz lab's research is directed at understanding such complex traits; to do so, they develop novel genomic approaches to investigate the molecular processes that link genotype to phenotype, identify the underlying factors, and quantify their contributions.
